Evidence for the Flood in the Geological and Fossil Record

In my last post, I discussed how the fossil record does not provide evidence for macroevolution. No creature in transition from one kind of animal to another has ever been seen, neither in the fossil record nor in nature. What we do find in the fossil record is evidence for a biblical creation and a biblical flood.

You probably know how fossils are formed, but here’s a quick review. Fossils cannot form unless the animal or plant is buried immediately by thick sediment before or after it dies. The reason is natural processes will break down the animal or plant before it can fossilize if it's not buried right away in thick sediment with low oxygen levels.

Typically, when an organism dies, bacteria, parasites, and scavengers show up immediately.

So the fact that there are so many fossils on earth means there must have been some event that caused animals to be buried alive or quickly after death. Animals fossilized while in motion have been discovered, including ichthyosaurs swimming all in the same direction in pods and an ichthyosaur giving birth. There are fossils of fish consuming smaller fish, fossils of animals in combat, and fossils of animals hatching from their eggs. We’ve found fossilized footprints of many creatures. These animals could not be fossilized over a long period of time. Nature would not allow that.

In Genesis 6, the flood occurred when the fountains of the deep broke open all over the earth. The earth’s plates cracked and water from within poured over the earth.

This event would have caused volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, landslides, mudslides, muddy rivers and rushing water, and every kind of catastrophic event imaginable. Researchers recently found that there is more water under the earth than in all our oceans combined, proving God’s word to be accurate.

The water continued to spout and rain for over 150 days, and the fast-moving rivers of sediment buried everything in their path. It then took another 221 days for the water to recede, laying down layers as each lower denser sediment layer settled. And that's why we find sea creatures fossilized in deserts and on the very highest mountains on the earth.

Here’s a question to ponder as you imagine the events of the flood. Which animals would be buried in sediment first? Well, it would be animals that could not fly, run, or swim. With each successive layer, the animals that had less power to overcome would be buried. The better an animal could fly or swim or run, the longer it would take for that animal to find itself buried in the sediment. And that’s exactly what we see in the geological column. Don’t be fooled into thinking the column represents the evolution of simple to more complex animals. Science now shows us how extremely complex the brain of an octopus is. Octopuses are brilliant creatures that can solve puzzles. Lobsters, too, are brilliant and able to outwit humans.

Another reason the geological column speaks to a flood and not evolution is that we continually find animals in the wrong layers. We also find tree trunks that are fossilized standing upright through many layers that are supposed to be millions of years old. The existence of these trees would be an impossibility if these layers were laid down over millions of years. We also do not find any erosion in or between any of the layers, but we would find evidence of erosion if it took millions of years for a layer to form.

The fact is, these geological layers of the earth were laid down systematically and quickly. We saw this when Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980. Similar layers to those that we find all over the earth were laid down in minutes and days. We watched huge canyons form in minutes, and sediment layers that looked like they would have taken millions of years to lay down were created in hours.

But what's even more amazing is the evidence we find in the Cambrian layer, which is one of the lowermost layers that covers the whole earth. This layer has a huge number of fully formed fossils from every phyla, making a sudden appearance with no earlier ancestors. They just appear. Mysteriously like magic. All these fully formed animals. Even Darwin was confounded and frustrated over what is called the Cambrian Explosion. Evolutionists rationalize this sudden explosion of new fully developed life forms to be caused by an increase in oxygen.

An increase in oxygen doesn't explain the sudden appearance of new, fully formed animals. That is illogical. Extra oxygen doesn’t mysteriously create a new bird.

A worldwide flood can easily explain the Cambrian explosion. The fact is, the Cambrian fossils resemble their counterparts today.

These Cambrian fossils depict animals that have not evolved since their appearance in the Cambrian layer. If evolution were true, shouldn't we see animals in the midst of transition somewhere in the fossil record or somewhere on earth today? We don't. We see species developing. But never do we see animals evolving into totally different creatures.

The most logical explanation for these scientific facts is the Noahic Flood.
