Rest for the Journey
Fulfilling the call to homeschool requires rest for the journey. It demands more than we are capable of producing in our own strength. We must depend on God for stamina and one another for motivation to keep travailing this path. It's so important that we surround ourselves with encouragement.
Do you receive encouragement on a daily basis? If not, ask the Lord to bring it to you.
I hope you know that what you are doing as a homeschool mom is nothing short of amazing. It's an incredible feat that requires supernatural enablement to complete. We need to position ourselves to receive encouragement as often as possible. Homeschooling can be the most joyous and exciting adventure, but it's not always easy.
We've all read the little poem called Footprints. It describes a person looking back over his life and noticing that, everywhere he went, Jesus was next to him as evidenced by Jesus' footprints next to his. Yet when the road was rocky and rough, there was only one set of footprints. That was because in those rough times, Jesus was carrying him.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
Many moms have all day to spend time with God, run errands, and clean their house. However, homeschool moms have a very different situation. We often don't get the rest our spirit, soul, and body craves and needs. I have a deep conviction that Jesus' arms are tenderly holding every homeschool mother as she fulfills the call to educate her children at home. We are being carried, and His footsteps are the only ones we will see when we look back at these challenging years of sacrifice.
The homeschool adventure travels over beautiful terrain, but it is uphill most of the way. This mountainous journey requires exceeding agility and strength. And we need rest for the journey. Jesus is carrying us. So lean your head on His shoulder and rest. Know that He is sustaining you and guiding you. He has so much compassion for you, so don't be hard on yourself. Just rest in His love and acceptance. The noble things you are doing will reap rewards untold.
And one day, when it's all said and done, you'll hear Him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
