The Sacrifice of Isaac

1635

In Genesis 22, God commanded Abraham to sacrifice and burn his son Isaac to test his faith. Abraham intended to follow God’s order, but just before he slayed Isaac, God sent the angel of the Lord to stop him.

Rembrandt captures this tremendous moment in this painting.

After reading the Bible story, study the painting for five minutes. Look at each individual and their facial expression. Afterward, without looking, describe as much of the painting as you can.
